We were all raised thinking milk was a healthy and important part of our diets. It’s full of calcium and vitamin D, which help keep our bones and teeth strong. It also has choline, a protein important for the brain, and potassium, which helps protect the heart. However, in recent years there have been studies that prove that milk actually doesn’t do the body good.

Turns out humans have no nutritional requirement for milk and those who drink milk daily are no more healthier than those who don’t.

Dairy can lead to health problems, including: acne, allergies, anemia, arthritis, colic, cramps, diabetes, diarrhea, ear infections, heart disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, sinusitis, skin rashes, increased frequency of colds and flu, osteoporosis, asthma, autoimmune diseases, and possibly even lung cancer, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.

Here are six more reasons why you should consider cutting milk out of your diet:

1. Women who drink more than two glasses of milk a day are twice as likely to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer than women who rarely drink it, according to a Swedish study.

2. According to research recently published in the British Medical Journal, women who drink three or more glasses of milk per day are nearly twice as likely than non-milk-drinkers to die over the course of 20 years from any cause.

3. Dairy contains a high amount of saturated fat and is linked to heart disease.

4. Contrary to popular belief, eating dairy products has never been shown to reduce bone fractures. In fact, according to the Nurses’ Health Study dairy may increase risk of fractures by 50 percent.

5. Less dairy might mean better bones. Countries with lowest rates of dairy and calcium consumption (like those in Africa and Asia) have the lowest rates of osteoporosis.

6. About 75 percent of the world’s population does not have the enzyme that allows you to properly digest milk and other dairy products — a problem called lactose intolerance.
